Ex-WWE champion wants to face IYO SKY in a major gimmick match

RAW Superstar IYO SKY gained significant popularity after winning the WWE Women's Championship at SummerSlam 2023. The Damage CTRL member lost her title to Bayley at WrestleMania 40. Meanwhile, former NXT Women's Champion Lyra Valkyria has expressed her interest in facing The Genius of The Sky in a one-on-one unique gimmick match.

In an interview with Denise Salcedo, the 27-year-old star expressed her aspiration to compete in an Iron Woman match, emphasizing that such an accomplishment would be a source of great pride for her.

Only two Iron Woman Matches have ever taken place in WWE history. The first match took place between Mercedes Mone (FKA Sasha Banks) and Becky Lynch at the 2015 NXT Takeover: Respect Premium Live Event. It was a 30-minute match, in which The Role Model won 3-2. In 2016, the erstwhile Banks and Charlotte Flair locked horns in a 30-minute match for the RAW Women's Title at the Roadblock: End of the Line PLE.

Lyra Valkyria was also questioned about a potential opponent for an Iron Woman Match. The former NXT Women's Champion suggested that IYO SKY would make for an ''amazing'' opponent.

"Against IYO [SKY] would be amazing. She's amazing. I've been watching her since long before I ever even came to WWE as well. She's so experienced, and working with her is just amazing," she said. [From 06:05 to 06:36]

WWE veteran frustrated with IYO SKY's match on RAW

Pro wrestling veteran Vince Russo recently expressed his frustration with the recent singles match between The Genius of The Sky and Bianca Belair. During the September 16, 2024, episode of Monday Night RAW, IYO SKY achieved a significant victory over The EST by countering a KOD attempt with a double-leg pinfall.

On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Vince Russo criticized the finish of the IYO SKY vs. Bianca Belair match on the flagship show.

The former WWE writer argued that The EST getting 'injured' during a dangerous spot outside the ring and then losing to SKY would have been a better finish. Russo suggested that this would have protected Belair's character and added drama to the match.

"The way they got IYO SKY over, Belair had her in her finish. That doesn’t protect Bianca Belair at all. They were doing all that dangerous stuff on the outside when she had her up and carried her in the ring. Have her [Bianca] blow out her knees right there; that’s the finish. Not when she hits her [IYO] with the move and then gets beat," Russo said.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if WWE books an Iron Woman Match between SKY and Lyra Valkyria in the future.
