Ex-WWE figure says Baron Corbin was a "special talent" and isn't surprised at 2 other big releases (Exclusive)
Baron Corbin's WWE exit left a lot of fans stunned, but he wasn't the only one released in that period. An ex-WWE backstage figure wasn't surprised about the two female stars who were released earlier this year.
On the latest episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, host Dr. Chris Featherstone asked EC3 and former WWE head writer Vince Russo about Baron Corbin. They shared their thoughts on the former United States Champion's release and future in the business.
Vince Russo was full of praise for Corbin. He said the releases of Indi Hartwell and Tegan Nox didn't surprise him because he felt like they were taken for granted by the WWE system.
"Listen, I actually watched Baron Corbin in NXT. I loved the gimmick, I loved the look. Then he came over to WWE (...) what happened to him, what happened to a lot of people, I just don't know what it is. The first time I saw Tegan Nox and Indi Hartwell (...) they just go through these women, it's like a rotating wheel in and out, in and out." (2:47 - 3:20)
Russo called Baron Corbin a "special talent" and expressed his desire to work with him.
"They were just two names on the roster. I felt Baron Corbin was a special talent and I look at a guy like that and think 'I wish I would have had the opportunity to work with him.'" (3:40 - 3:57)

WWE's handling of Baron Corbin disappointed Kurt Angle
Baron Corbin was the man who retired Kurt Angle. The Olympic gold medalist didn't mind doing the honors for a younger star, but he wasn't happy about how things unfolded afterward.
On Busted Open, Kurt Angle detailed how disappointed he was in WWE's handling of Corbin. He said The Lone Wolf should have been crowned world champion following his King of the Ring victory in 2019.
"Baron's [Corbin] really talented. I see a lot of potential in him. I was really disappointed with what WWE did with him. I mean, they pushed him at first and they had him beat me at WrestleMania [35] for my retirement match, which is fine. I was okay with that. Afterward, they had him win the King of the Ring Tournament, and he kinda fell off. He fell off the radar. And he never really made it back, at least not to the extent that he should've been. I mean, when you win King of the Ring, you're going to be a future world champion, and that did not happen for Baron. I was really disappointed," Angle said. [From 12:20 to 12:59]
Angle seemingly has a greater right than anybody else to be disappointed with how Corbin's career turned out. All signs indicate that he was a great person to work with in and out of the ring. Hence, his wrestling career will hopefully take an upward trajectory in the coming years.
