Ex-WWE star confirms popular faction "was killed off by the powers that be"; teases potential reunion

WWE has built many top factions over the past decade. A popular faction was disbanded by the company without any concrete direction earlier this decade. A former member recently confirmed the reason behind it. This was MVP, who was till recently a WWE Superstar.

The Hurt Business took over RAW after forming in May 2020. MVP and Bobby Lashley got together to form the faction initially before Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander joined them.

The four-man group did incredibly well during the pandemic era, where Lashley became the WWE Champion and Benjamin and Alexander won the RAW Tag Team Titles. MVP worked as a great manager and in-ring talent.

The Hurt Business disbanded in 2021, and the company saw no real direction for the members involved. The All-Mighty became a solo act, while MVP started managing Omos soon after. Meanwhile, Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin were reduced to being enhancement talents for some time.

During a K&S WrestleFest virtual signing, MVP spoke about the reason behind The Hurt Business’ breakup. He noted that WWE was behind the decision to break them up, and he is currently in contact to do something with its former members, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin.

"The Hurt Business is dead and it was killed off by the powers that be. Myself, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin are talking amongst ourselves about what we want to do going forward. Stay tuned," said MVP. [H/T - Fightful]

MVP managed Omos for some time, but some feel The Nigerian Giant never really got over due to his limited wrestling skills. He competed in matches against some top stars but has been off television for a long time.

WWE has already seen three members of The Hurt Business leave the company

The rise and fall of The Hurt Business is nothing short of a case study in WWE. During the pandemic era, the faction was arguably as big as Judgment Day on RAW.

The creative team could have done a lot more with the superstars involved, especially when Bobby Lashley had the WWE Title around his waist. Instead, the group was disbanded without any clear direction for its members.

MVP’s contract expired in August 2024, and he left the company to move on to other projects. Similarly, Bobby Lashley’s contract also expired in August 2024 and he too decided to leave the company.
