Ex-WWE star doesn't think Gunther needs to be World Champion right now (Exclusive)

Former WWE star Afa Anoa'i Jr. recently previewed Damian Priest vs. Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The two stars go up against each other this Saturday at SummerSlam.

The Ring General ensured a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship after winning the King of the Ring tournament earlier this year. After becoming the number one challenger, he started taking verbal shots at the current champion. The animosity between Priest and Gunther has been increasing over the weeks. The two men have gotten into brawls for the last two weeks in a row on RAW.

During an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Anoa'i Jr. detailed that Priest needed more time with the title. He felt that Gunther was coming off a historic title reign with the Intercontinental Championship and didn't really need the World Title to be recognized as a formidable competitor in the ring.

"To me, if I'm doing it, Damian is retaining. Just because Gunther, just coming off his historic IC run, I don't think it's time yet for him. It's a high-profile matchup which is why it's booked. But I just don't necessarily think that he needs it at the moment." [From 17:50 to 18:17]

This past week on RAW, Damian Priest attacked The Ring General and laid him out to close the show. This was after the challenger defeated Finn Balor in the main event and continued the beatdown after the match.

It will be interesting to see which promising WWE Superstar carries the World Heavyweight Championship coming out of SummerSlam.
