Ex-WWE star willing to return seven years after being granted release

Several former WWE wrestlers have re-signed with the company since Triple H became the main roster's creative figurehead in July 2022. In a recent interview, Ho Ho Lun addressed whether he would like to return to the Stamford-based promotion.

Lun spent a year in the NXT developmental system after appearing in the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic tournament. The 37-year-old was granted his release in 2017 due to a family issue.

On the Developmentally Speaking podcast, Lun recalled how WWE invited him to a tryout in Shanghai, China, in 2019. Although the tryout did not lead to a return, he still hopes to work for the company again someday:

"There were plans to do something in Asia, I think," Lun said, referencing the company's Performance Center expansion plans. "That's why I got invited, I think, but then nothing happened. I would love to be there again if there's a chance." [18:45 – 19:00]

Lun defeated Ariya Daivari on his WWE debut in the Cruiserweight Classic. His participation in the tournament ended when he lost to Noam Dar in the second round.

Ho Ho Lun admits "little bit of regret" over WWE exit

During his time in WWE, Ho Ho Lun shared the ring with current main roster stars Andrade, AOP, Johnny Gargano, Otis, and Tommaso Ciampa.

Seven years on, Lun wishes he was able to spend more time in the NXT system. He was grateful to have had the opportunity to represent the promotion and said he does have a little bit of regret about leaving, despite having asked for a release himself because of family issues.

"I remember at that time, NXT, there was like 120 superstars over there in NXT, so there's only like 10 spots, 15 spots per TV episode, so I'm really grateful to be able to be there a few times. Actually, you know what, there's a little bit of regret of myself. I actually asked for my release during 2017 because of family issues but, you know, that's life," he said. [20:34 – 21:14]

Lun's final match for the company ended in defeat against Velveteen Dream on the June 28, 2017, episode of NXT.
