Ex-WWE writer names RAW star who needed to win the Women's Battle Royal instead of IYO SKY (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about IYO SKY becoming the number-one contender for the Women's World Championship. She won a battle royal this week on RAW.
SKY was one of several women fighting it out in a historic Women's Battle Royal in Riyadh to become the next challenger for Liv Morgan's Women's World Title. The Damage CTRL star finally eliminated Lyra Valkyria to become the number-one contender.
This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo felt that someone backstage advocated for IYO SKY to win the match. He felt the higher management was high on the Damage CTRL star, resulting in her big win on RAW this week.
"Somebody, I don't know who it is, somebody over there is a huge advocate of IYO SKY. Someone is a huge, huge advocate of IYO SKY."
He continued that Lyra Valkyria possibly needed this win the most. The veteran writer clarified that Liv would still retain the title irrespective of the challenger, but WWE could push Valkyria.
"Remember Valkyria came in with such fanfare. I mean, if anybody needed to win this match, it was her. I wouldn't say she's in the doghouse but they kinda hit the brakes on her a little bit. She came out of the gate red hot and she really, really could have used the win here. Let's face it whoever wins this match is putting over Liv anyway." [4:35 onwards]
It will be interesting to see if IYO can dethrone Liv Morgan when the two stars meet one-on-one with the fate of the WWE Women's World title hanging in the balance.
