Ex-WWE writer says major storyline's success negatively affected Bray Wyatt in 2023 (Exclusive)

According to an ex-WWE writer, Bray Wyatt's brief return run between late 2022 and early 2023 left a lot to be desired. He explained how another storyline affected the late great Wyatt negatively.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling's Kevin Kellam in an exclusive interview, ex-WWE writer Jon Rineman spoke about the Uncle Howdy story a bit in a video that was recorded before his return on 17th June 2024. Rineman had worked with Bray Wyatt a couple of times during his brief WWE stint in 2019.

Rineman explained to Kevin Kellam that as a viewer, it was clear that Bray Wyatt's return run wasn't working out well while acknowledging that we never actually got to see the end of it. He also admitted that The Bloodline's story with superstars like Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes was so hot that WWE had to give it more screen time, negatively affecting Wyatt in the process:

"We never got to see the way it played out when Bray [Wyatt] was with us. I will say that objectively, the way it was playing out on TV and again we didn't get to see the end, it wasn't working at the time as a viewer. I got frustrated. It didn't help at the time that The Bloodline was such a red-hot angle. It was almost like, here's The Bloodline and Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes and all that stuff and you're just matching up that thing with, it just seemed to be taking a long time to deliver." How is the Wyatt Sicks paying tribute to Bray Wyatt?

The Wyatt Sicks group appeared with five superstars - believed to be Bo Dallas, Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, and Joe Gacy. Many questioned why there were only five members until it was pointed out that the sixth spot is eternally reserved for the late great Wyatt.

The lantern seems to be the physical representation of the former WWE and Universal Champion, with the group being somewhat a continuation of his story and legacy.

The first appearance of the group left a huge impact on WWE fans, and it will be interesting to see how this is followed up on in the weeks and months to come.
