First-time ever World Heavyweight Championship match announced; featuring two top ex-WWE stars

Numerous former WWE stars have found success in other promotions in the wrestling industry. If not, they have been a major part of the independent circuit, trying to make a name. Two former stars of the Stamford-based company are now set to collide for the first time with a massive World title on the line.

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Nic Nemeth (fka Dolph Ziggler) has been having a successful run as the TNA World Champion. On the other hand, Matt Riddle has been making headlines around the world with his work on the independent scene. The latter recently appeared in TNA, which got him a lot more attention.

Awesome Championship Wrestling recently announced that Nemeth and Riddle will meet each other in the squared circle for the first time, with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship on the line. The match will take place on January 4, 2025, when the promotion presents the Poughkeepsie Rumble from the MJN Center in New York.

Former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle might not work with TNA again

Matt Riddle made his TNA debut on November 29, 2024, at Turning Point. He teamed up with Kushida and Zachary Wentz against The Hardys and Ace Austin in a losing effort. While the reception backstage for the former United States Champion was positive, Riddle might not get to work with the promotion again.

Fightful Select reported that Riddle was used as a replacement for Trey Miguel, who faced some travel issues at the last minute. Further, it was noted that TNA was not interested in working with the former WWE star again.

While Riddle might bring a lot of attraction to the company, thanks to his popularity in the industry, it would be a massive move to sign him or work with him regularly. Only time will tell if Riddle gets to work with the company again.
