Former AEW star becomes champion for the first time in WWE; breaks silence

A massive title change occurred during the latest episode of WWE NXT. Lexis King defeated Charlie Dempsey via disqualification to win the NXT Heritage Cup.

The shocking turn of events unfolded when William Regal struck King with brass knuckles while the referee’s attention was diverted. However, as the referee turned around, Dempsey picked up the brass knuckles. Seeing Dempsey holding the weapon and King laid out in the ring, the referee called for a disqualification, awarding the win and the NXT Heritage Cup to Lexis King.

Following the match, WWE correspondent Sarah Schreiber interviewed King backstage. The former AEW star expressed pride in himself for not taking any shortcuts to secure the victory. When asked about the chaotic finish, King avoided diving into specifics, stating that he was still processing his unexpected win.

Later, King took to X/Twitter to share his thoughts. He praised Charlie Dempsey as one of the most technical wrestlers in the world and admitted that he wasn’t entirely sure how he achieved the victory. Nonetheless, he expressed excitement and gratitude for becoming the new NXT Heritage Cup Champion.

"One second I’m going toe to toe with one of the greatest, most technical wrestlers in the world today, and then next thing I know I’m holding the prestigious Heritage Cup!!! Feels like I was hit by a freakin semi truck too! I don’t know how it happened but a win is a win 👑👑👑," King wrote.

This marks King’s first-ever championship victory in WWE, closing the year on a high note. It will be intriguing to see what lies ahead for the rising star in 2025.
