Former champion reveals he was close to retiring due to frustrations with WWE

A former WWE Superstar opened up about his frustrations with the company and revealed he almost considered retirement. The star in question was released by the promotion last September.

Elias, now known as Elijah on the independent wrestling scene, recently detailed his frustrations with not being used on WWE television. In an interview with Alistair McGeorge for Metro.co, the former 24/7 Champion discussed being relegated to backstage segments and admitted he considered walking away from wrestling before he was let go by the promotion.

"The fact that I just kinda was relegated to like short backstage – it was so frustrating that I was like, 'You know what? Maybe I’m done with wrestling. Maybe I’m just you know, I’m just over it.' It beats that fun thing you have as a kid when you want to wrestle and you want to be in WWE. And someone like me, I didn’t like just to sit by and just collect the paycheck. I wanted to be in the mix," he said.

Former WWE star Elias reveals he was supposed to wrestle The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia

Elijah (Elias) recently shared that he was scheduled to wrestle The Undertaker at Superstar ShowDown 2019 in Saudi Arabia.

In an interview with Jamal Niaz of For the Love of Wrestling, the 36-year-old disclosed he was supposed to battle The Undertaker in 2019 but the match never came to fruition. The Deadman ultimately wound up facing Goldberg at Superstar ShowDown in a match that did not go as planned.

"We were supposed to have a match at Saudi Arabia after that big moment on Monday Night Raw right there. But then through other things... you know, this is how things happen. It ends up being Goldberg, and I never had that match." [From 06:31 to 06:47]
