Former employee discusses how much WWE got paid for Crown Jewel after Triple H's bombshell announcement (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Triple H's announcement of a Crown Jewel Champion this year. The Chief Content Officer also unveiled a new title for the champion.
At this year's Bad Blood event, Triple H announced that it would be a historic event in Saudi Arabia as WWE would have its top champions fight it out to become the first-ever Crown Jewel Champion. Cody Rhodes will face Gunther for the Men's Crown Jewel Championship while Live Morgan and Nia Jax will collide for the Women's Crown Jewel Championship.
On a recent episode of BroDown Live, Russo conjectured that WWE possibly received a huge sum of 10 million dollars to introduce the new title. The wrestling veteran felt it was the right business decision for the company but they couldn't blame the fans for lack of interest in the event.
"Here's the thing. You and I both know. What did Saudi Arabia pay for that ridiculous belt? We're talking, I'm telling you, bro, we're probably 10 million dollars. To have a Crown Jewel Champion, they probably paid 10 million dollars for that. So you can't blame WWE. If they're gonna offer you crazy stupid money, take the crazy stupid money. But you can't expect the fans to care about that." [From 22:28 onwards]
With Crown Jewel fast approaching, it will be interesting to see what Triple H and the rest of the creative team can do to pique fan interest in the new title.
Either way, this year's Crown Jewel promises to have some mouth-watering contests in place for the WWE Universe.
