Former Intercontinental Champion teases coming out of retirement in WWE after more than 8 years
A multi-time Intercontinental Champion has hinted at finally returning to the ring for the first since 2016 following this week's edition of WWE RAW. Wade Barrett got embroiled in the chaos between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan on the Monday Night Show and has now sent out a message that has gotten the fans excited.
Barrett last wrestled back in 2016 and has since moved into a broadcasting role. However, the former Intercontinental Champion has been vocal about wanting to come out of retirement in WWE, especially to wrestle Drew McIntyre. Even The Scottish Warrior dropped hints at a potential encounter with Wade Barrett recently.
On this week's edition of RAW, Wade Barrett inadvertently came into the line of action after Rhea Ripley hit a Spear on Liv Morgan. The Women's World Champion crashed into the announcer's table, where Barrett was seated.
Now, he's taken to Twitter to react to the moment, mentioning how it was his first bump since he retired. The 44-year-old also wrote that he was willing to take such risks if the situation demanded. His tweet even got the fans buzzing, many of whom believe it was a hint at his in-ring return down the line. Check it out below:
"8.5 years since I last took a bump. It can be a dangerous job, but as a gentleman, it’s a risk I’m willing to take.#WWERaw," wrote Barrett.
Sam Roberts thinks Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre go to war in WWE soon
On a recent edition of his NotSam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts stated that Drew McIntyre and Wade Barrett's on-screen tensions could result in them stepping inside the squared circle. However, Roberts believes even if Barrett comes out of retirement, he would later return to the commentary table.
The idea that [Drew] McIntyre is going to Wade Barrett off of commentary. I think we can tell a hell of a story between Wade Barrett and [Drew] McIntyre that results in a match. Afterwards, Wade Barrett goes back to commentary because I think Wade Barrett is pretty damn good on commentary. But I mean, why not? Why not go further with the Drew McIntyre-Wade Barrett thing?" he added.
While only time will tell if Barrett gets to face The Scottish Warrior, the latter is gearing up to face CM Punk in a Hell in a Cell match at WWE Bad Blood 2024.
