Former Nexus member willing to come out of retirement in WWE after 8-year in-ring hiatus

Former Nexus member and WWE broadcaster Wade Barrett recently revealed that he would be open to the idea of his in-ring return. The former Intercontinental Champion hasn't stepped foot inside the squared circle since the April 4, 2016, edition of Monday Night RAW.

In his last match, he partnered with Sheamus to unsuccessfully challenge the then WWE Tag Team Champions, Big E and Kofi Kingston of The New Day.

The former Nexus leader later parted ways with the Sports Entertainment juggernaut to shift focus to his acting career. Following his return to pro wrestling, he quietly transitioned into a commentator and currently serves as one of the lead broadcasters on SmackDown.

During a recent interview with Metro UK, the English professional wrestler said if the WWE mapped out a creative idea for his comeback match, he would lace up his boots again.

”I’m fit and healthy. If something came up where, ‘Okay, there’s a match here; would you be interested in doing it?’ If it makes sense to me and I was excited to do it, absolutely, I could," he said.

Wade Barrett teased potentially getting involved in an ongoing WWE storyline

Wade Barrett went off on Triple H and WWE management after CM Punk cost Drew McIntyre a chance to reclaim his World Heavyweight Championship at Clash at the Castle last month.

The 43-year-old veteran asserted that The Second City Saint should have been kicked out of the building.

"We have a guy in CM Punk who has materially derailed the showa massive show. It was the biggest arena gate of all time, as we just learned. He derailed it. He derailed a World Heavyweight Championship match, the dreams of millions of Scottish people, and, of course, Drew McIntyre. He should've been thrown out of the building. Or, in fact, he should be thrown out for his own safety first of all," he said.

Barrett later revealed that the management reprimanded him for his controversial statement.

A section of fans thought the angle would lead to a potential face-off between CM Punk and Wade Barrett. However, that didn't come to fruition. The duo has a sordid history that dates back to 2011, when The Best in The World briefly took over the reins of The Nexus.

Will the two men rekindle their rivalry in the future? Only time will tell.
