Former Royal Rumble winner shares his true feelings on Kevin Nash's WWE Championship win
A former winner of the Men's Royal Rumble Match has revealed his feelings about Kevin Nash (FKA Diesel) winning the WWE Championship in 1994. Lex Luger was given a huge push a year before but failed to take home the biggest prize in the company.
Luger's All-American gimmick captivated the WWE Universe in 1993, leading to a match against Yokozuna for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. He defeated Yokozuna but via countout. Hence, he didn't win the title. Lex would then win the Royal Rumble the following year along with Bret Hart.
The Total Package challenged Yokozuna again for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania X. He beat the defending champion again, but this time via disqualification. It was the end of his push, with Diesel eventually winning the title later that year.
Speaking in the latest episode of his Lex Expressed podcast, Luger explained that he was never jealous of Kevin Nash's championship win. He thought that it was a great decision by WWE, and it never affected him in any way.
"Zero. I was so happy for Kevin. I thought he'd be a great world champion. So thrilled for him for the opportunity. I never lost confidence in my career [about] where I was going to be or go. I always looked at myself as a main event guy. I pretty much had that for my 15-year in-ring career. So, zero, 'I wish that had been me or that should have been me' in that regard at all. Yeah, I was so happy for Kevin at the time," Luger said. [H/T: Fightful]
Lex Luger's WWE career ended in 1995. He returned to WCW, where he won the promotion's World Heavyweight Championship in 1997. Kevin Nash, on the other hand, held the WWE Championship for almost a year before losing it to Bret Hart at Survivor Series 1995.
Kevin Nash undergoes successful surgery
On the latest episode of the Kliq This podcast, co-host Sean Oliver explained why Kevin Nash was absent. The WWE Hall of Famer underwent successful surgery on his bicep and is currently recovering.
"We're without our spiritual leader, the great Kevin Nash. Kev had his surgery; it was successful, and there was some more damage in there than they thought, so they had to do some cleaning up. He's recovering," Oliver said. [H/T: Fightful]
In a previous episode of Kliq This, Nash opened up about having shoulder issues, revealing that he was exploring several options, including stem cell treatment. Big Daddy Cool has struggled with multiple injuries over the years, including to his back and knee.
