Former SmackDown GM suggests WWE didn't know what to do in a major decision involving Roman Reigns (Exclusive)

Roman Reigns has kept a tight hold over the Universal Championship for close to three years now. He is less than a month away from touching 1,000 days as WWE Universal Champion. Former SmackDown GM Teddy Long suggested that WWE may have made a very crucial decision about The Tribal Chief on the fly.

On the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine, Teddy Long, Bill Apter, and co-host Mac Davis sat down and discussed the WWE Draft 2023. During the conversation, the two World Titles were brought up. There seemed to be some confusion about why the WWE and Universal Championships were unified in the first place.

Teddy Long said that WWE usually does everything for a reason but hinted that the unifying the titles could have been one of those instances where they made the decision and just figured it out as things went along:

"Everything they [WWE] do is done for a reason. Sometimes they do things because they don't know which way they're going to go. So they just do some things until they figure it out. So I think we'll just have to wait and see what happens because right now, with all the changes, the draft, and everything... everything is a mystery. So now we just got to watch and see how the stories play out." (5:48-6:09)

Roman Reigns returns to WWE after a month this Friday

YOUR TRIBAL CHIEF @WWERomanReigns returns! (Alongside his Wiseman, @HeymanHustle!) https://t.co/a0ypg5oi7x

Roman Reigns was last seen on the RAW after WrestleMania when he was supposed to compete in the main event, but Brock Lesnar turned on Cody Rhodes.

Since then, we have only been getting messages from him through his special counsel Paul Heyman, with Reigns pulling strings behind the scenes to make sure Solo Sikoa keeps The Usos in place.

The Tribal Chief will return for the first time in a month, and we may get an idea of who his last roadblock is to reaching 1,000 days as Universal Champion. Roman Reigns is expected to defend his title in Saudi Arabia at Night of Champions.
