Former Universal Champion to make WWE return and turn babyface, veteran says; for the first time under Triple H's regime

Former WWE Superstar Ryback thinks a former Universal Champion could turn babyface for the first time under Triple H's creative leadership.

Roman Reigns has been a heel since returning to WWE during the pandemic era. In the summer of 2020, he reinvented himself as The Tribal Chief and aligned with Paul Heyman, embarking on the run of a lifetime. During his time as the kingpin of The Bloodline, Roman Reigns held the Universal Championship and WWE Title for a combined 1,316 days.

His record-setting reign (no pun intended) ended at the hands of Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. Since then, The Head of the Table hasn't been seen on TV.

Speaking on the Ryback TV podcast, The Big Guy discussed a potential match between The Rock and Roman Reigns for next year's WrestleMania.

The former WWE Superstar thinks Reigns will return as a babyface to kickstart a program with his villain cousin that previously didn't pass muster with the fans.

"They wanted to do Rock vs. Roman, right? They want to do that. That's on their board. So now what they have to do is find a creative way to get there. They like to get the last laugh. So, fans rejected their main event pay-per-view idea this year. So what are they going to do? They're going to make it such a good storyline and develop it. With Rock probably going to come back at some point, my guess is maybe next year WrestleMania or something, but Roman is probably going to have a babyface return and where we're going to finally get that match," Ryback said. WWE CCO Triple H heaps praise on Roman Reigns

During WrestleMania XL post-show press conference, Triple H explained how Roman Reigns changed the business.

Triple H asserted that the next chapter in The Tribal Chief's career is going to blow people's minds.

"He changed the industry. I mean that in front of the camera, behind the camera, he has changed the industry. He’s that good. Can’t say enough good stuff about him. And then to do what he did tonight with Cody Rhodes and complete that — and it’s not completing the story. It’s just getting to the end of that chapter. ’Cause he’s going to go on a new story now that is going to blow people’s minds, I think. And I know he’s gonna take it to whole other level. I can’t tell you how much respect I have for Roman Reigns," Triple H said.

The Rock has also been on a hiatus from WWE since The Show of Shows this year, though he did appear on RAW after WrestleMania to confront Cody Rhodes.

Will The Tribal Chief and The Final Boss remain on the same page upon their return? Only time will tell.
