Former world champion sends a message after losing major title match on WWE RAW
This week’s episode of WWE RAW saw a former world champion contest a major title match alongside her stablemate. Despite delivering a stellar performance, she failed to win the bout for her side. Following this, she sent a message to fans and her teammates.
Former Women's Champion IYO SKY and Kairi Sane are currently the only active members of Damage CTRL. With Asuka and Dakota Kai nursing their injuries, SKY and Sane competed in a Triple Threat tag team match for the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Although The Unholy Union retained their gold, the Japanese duo had the upper hand for most of the match. Following the loss, IYO SKY tweeted images of her and Sane’s entrance on RAW with a message for the WWE Universe.
“We are #DamageCTRL 🔥 @KAIRI_official @Iyo_SkyWWE @ImKingKota @WWEAsuka #WWERaw,” wrote SKY.
The title match held much significance for Damage CTRL. Notably, the faction just turned babyface and started a feud with the newly formed Pure Fusion Collective. The heel stable made things personal by attacking Dakota Kai backstage and injuring her knee. A win tonight for SKY and Sane would have allowed the duo to capture the title and avenge Kai's beatdown.
The bout was initially supposed to feature the champions and the number one contenders for the title. However, things changed when Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre were forced to get involved in the number one contenders contest for their gold last week.
Why did the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match become a Triple Threat showdown?
Last week on RAW, Damage CTRL and Pure Fusion Collective faced each other to earn a Women’s Tag Team Championship shot. SKY and Sane aimed to punish their opponents for injuring Kai. However, Sonya Deville tried to interfere and give her team the upper hand. Hence, SKY fell towards Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre, who were spectating the match from ringside.
Zoey Stark tried to hit a mean kick to SKY, but she dodged, and her foot connected with the face of Fyre. Taking advantage of this mistake, the former Women’s Champion got Stark in the ring and hit her signature Moonsault.
Before SKY could secure the pinfall, The Unholy Union broke the pin and started attacking everyone. The reigning champs drove their challengers away and marked the squared circle as their territory. Many fans believed Damage CTRL should have been awarded the win by disqualification.
However, the official didn’t declare either side as the winner. Hence, the three teams competed in a Triple Threat contest on Monday. It would be interesting to see whether the babyface faction gets another title opportunity in the coming weeks.
