Former writer thinks WWE  is "hurting" and "weakening" Drew McIntyre due to one reason (Exclusive)

Drew McIntyre's character arc has been second to none in WWE and arguably all of professional wrestling. However, former head writer Vince Russo thinks that the company is hurting The Scottish Warrior's credibility due to a significant decision.

On the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing with Russo, Vince Russo spoke to Dr. Chris Featherstone about Drew McIntyre 'quitting' WWE. It was recorded before McIntyre's brutal assault on CM Punk on SmackDown.

Vince Russo mentioned right off the bat that the angle of Drew McIntyre quitting WWE could have possibly been tied to his wife, Kaitlyn, having emergency surgery. The former head writer further questioned the company's decision to have McIntyre quit'—something that he considered uncharacteristic of the Scotsman. Russo added that the story could hurt and weaken the RAW star.

"First of all, you always hear me talking about staying true to your character. Now I'm going to give them [WWE] the benefit of the doubt that his [Drew McIntyre's] wife is sick, and he requested some time off. But here's the problem with that: Number one, the type of character you built in Drew, I don't believe for a second that this guy will take his ball and go home. That's hurting Drew. That's weakening Drew." (6:03 - 6:48)

Viewers now know that this was a set-up for the attack on CM Punk. It wasn't clear at the time of the show's recording.

An unlikely female WWE star wants to team up with Drew McIntyre to face her husband in TNA Wrestling

The Scottish Warrior is a lone wolf in WWE these days, abandoning any alliances after his failed association with The Judgment Day at Survivor Series: WarGames last year. However, one female WWE star wants to team up with McIntyre.

During an interview with Cultaholic, Chelsea Green said she wanted to face her husband Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder) and Steph De Lander in TNA Wrestling. She picked Drew McIntyre as her choice for a tag team partner.

"Well, here's the thing, I'll always love to take on my little demon Rosemary, but I also wouldn't mind seeing my husband, Matt Cardona, and Steph De Lander take on me and, I'm not sure yet. I'm not sure what man (...) I find them very annoying and smelly and sweaty. Maybe Drew [McIntyre]. I can take Drew because Drew was [a] former TNA, former IMPACT guy. So that could work."

Chelsea Green will have the biggest opportunity of her career when she returns to her home country, Canada, to try and become Ms. Money in the Bank 2024.
