Former WWE Champion believes in Joe Hendry (Exclusive)

Joe Hendry has become one of the world's most talked-about wrestlers over the last few months. In an exclusive interview, former WWE Champion Jeff Hardy addressed whether he believes in his fellow TNA talent.

Hendry's theme song, "I Believe In Joe Hendry," reached number four in the UK Singles Downloads Chart in May. The 36-year-old's popularity has continued to grow since then, leading WWE to give him his NXT debut as part of its ongoing relationship with TNA.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Jeff Hardy recalled how he became a believer in Hendry:

"I think he's a really great guitar player and just watching his entrances from back in the day how funny they are and how entertaining they are and how talented he is overall. I watched the podcast, Matt had him on the show [The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy] a while back, and I was like, 'Oh my God, this guy's got it going on,' so I totally understand and I'm a believer in Joe Hendry." Jeff's brother Matt Hardy is also a big fan of Joe Hendry. In the same interview, Matt said the former TNA Digital Media Champion consistently shows signs of improvement:

"I think so [Joe Hendry has a bright future]. Even these few weeks I've been here, I feel like he's improving every single week in the ring, he's tightening up his whole act, and he has a ton of charisma, he gets the business, and he gets the entertainment aspect more than anyone else. You know what I mean? He's really good at that." [5:56 – 6:11]

Matt Hardy on Joe Hendry's use of social media

Many wrestlers use social media to send in-character messages to their on-screen rivals. Joe Hendry, however, prefers to promote himself by sharing the same picture of his smiling face multiple times per week.

Like Hendry, Matt Hardy created a buzz online in the mid-2010s when he reinvented himself as the Broken Matt Hardy persona.

The WWE legend sees similarities between his gimmick and Hendry's recent social media popularity:

"And when it comes to his social media, he's a social media guru because he knows exactly how to promote himself and how to do things to get people excited," Matt Hardy continued. "He'll make memes of himself, and I told him and I actually said this on air, which a lot of people saw this the night Jeff returned, he reminds me a lot of when I was first doing Broken Matt Hardy and it was going viral and there were like all these memes and GIFs we were trying to get out of it. That's what he's doing. He is really crossing over into more of a mainstream audience." [6:12 – 6:39]

Later in the interview, Jeff Hardy teased the return of a villainous character after 13 years if he feuds with Hendry in TNA.
