Former WWE champion holds major record ahead of RAW

A former WWE champion currently holds the record for the most matches wrestled in 2024. The star has had matches across all three brands.

WWE Superstar Pete Dunne started the year on SmackDown as a part of the New Catch Republic alongside Tyler Bate. On night 2 of the 2024 Draft, the duo was drafted to the red brand. Unfortunately, Bate was sidelined for a torn pectoral muscle soon after and has yet to return to in-ring action.

Dunne shifted to singles competition after his partner got injured and put forth several impressive performances, the most talked-about being the ones against Sheamus and Trick Williams. The 30-year-old has competed in 36 broadcasted matches this year, having won 20 of them. Pure Fusion Collective's Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler are not far behind with 34 and 33, respectively.

Former WWE Champion compares Pete Dunne to Bryan Danielson

Pete Dunne's former stablemate and former World Champion Sheamus recently praised The Bruiserweight and compared him to former WWE star Daniel Bryan (aka Bryan Danielson).

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show earlier this year, The Celtic Warrior recalled competing with Bryan. Sheamus claimed that he sees traits similar to the veteran performer in Pete Dunne. He pointed out that despite having a creative mind, the latter has an aggressive style, just like the former AEW World Champion.

"One of the things that set me off in my career, after I had gone through John Cena, Randy and Hunter and all that, I went in with Daniel Bryan. Bryan Danielson. It was great. And I see the same traits in Pete Dunne because he's got a great creative mind, but he's also aggressive. He just needs to let go, and he let go on Monday night. It was awesome," he said. Pete Dunne had a dominant run as the NXT UK Champion and held the title for 685 days before losing it to Walter (aka Gunther). Unfortunately, he is still searching for his first-ever title win on the main roster.
