Former WWE Champion could make massive return and challenge Gunther at WrestleMania 41, says analyst, in a dream match

A current WWE personality has predicted that a wrestling legend could return early next year and challenge Gunther for his World Heavyweight Championship. Sam Roberts thinks John Cena going to war against The Ring General at WrestleMania 41 could be a potential direction the Stamford-based promotion could explore.

The Leader of the Cenation showed up at this year's Money in the Bank PLE to make the emotional announcement regarding his impending retirement from wrestling. Cena revealed that 2025 would mark his final year in the business and that he would compete at a slew of premium live events next year, including at WrestleMania 41.

Since then, there's been rampant speculation regarding what WWE could have in store as one of its biggest names gears up for his final hurrah. On a recent episode of the NotSam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts stated that he would like to see John Cena win next year's Elimination Chamber match and face Gunther for his World Heavyweight Title at The Grandest Stages of Them All.

"What I would like to see is John Cena get an opportunity at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the man who still holds the title - Gunther. Maybe John Cena wins the Elimination Chamber and I would like to see him go to WrestleMania to face Gunther," said Sam Roberts. [43:34 - 44:04]

WWE veteran Dutch Mantell wants John Cena to defeat Gunther at WrestleMania 41

A couple of months back on Sportskeeda's Smack Talk, wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell discussed how Gunther and John Cena were guaranteed to put up a memorable showing if they competed at WrestleMania 41.

Mantell also mentioned that WWE could pull off a swerve by having the 16-time world champion win the World Heavyweight Title at the event.

"He will, I'm pretty sure of it," Mantell said regarding Gunther producing a high-quality match against Cena. "But, hey, everybody expects Gunther to win, right? What if that don't happen? You shock all the fans and all the betting guys. And if they could figure out a way to do that, I think that would set the world on fire. I don't think it would hurt Gunther that much anyway."

Considering just how beloved Cena is by the fans, there's little doubt WWE would have major plans in store for him once he's ready to embark on his retirement tour.
