Former WWE champion opens up on the possibility of a big return
A former WWE champion has opened up on the possibility of perhaps returning to the company one day. Trevor Lee, better known to WWE fans as Cameron Grimes, was released from his contract in April of this year, but it seems he still holds a soft spot for the Stamford-based promotion.
Lee had quite the stint with WWE, joining the company in 2019. His charismatic personality and in-ring acumen saw him rise through the ranks at a rapid pace in NXT. He even captured the NXT North American Championship.
After his success in the developmental brand, the main roster came calling, but things didn't pan out as hoped. Making the move up to SmackDown in 2023, Lee's main roster career lasted less than a year.
Despite this, he still remains open to returning to the company one day. Speaking on the SHAK podcast, Lee opined that "life is long" and that he "may make it back" one day. But, as of now, he's laser-focused on his work with MLW and the opportunity they have given him.
"Life is long. I may make it back [to WWE]. 'Cause you'd be lying to say they're not the top of the top, right? But right now, MLW has shown the trust in me to give me this title match [against Mistico]. That really means a lot to me, to show to me that they trust in me. And I hope that I can make them happy." Lee recently made his MLW debut at Eric Bischoff's One Shot. He attempted to pry the World Middleweight Championship away from Mistico but came up short.
Trevor Lee shared an emotional message upon learning of his WWE release
As mentioned earlier, Trevor Lee was let go by the Triple-H-led promotion after a less-than-stellar run on the main roster. His contract expired on April 23, 2024, and he wrestled his last match 11 days prior to his release, going head-to-head with current Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker.
Upon learning of his release, Lee took to social media almost immediately to break the news. Sharing a post on Instagram, he became incredibly emotional, thanking everyone in the company with tears rolling down his face. He was clearly taken aback by the news, but he remained strong, promising his fans he would come back stronger.
Lee is an exceptional performer and one that fans would undoubtedly love to see back in a WWE ring one day.
