Former WWE champion reacts after elimination from title tournament
A popular WWE Superstar has shared his reaction to getting eliminated from a championship tournament. The name in question is Austin Theory.
In one of the most recent WWE Speed tournament matches aired on X earlier today, the 27-year-old locked horns with Montez Ford. The two talented performers put forth an engaging back-and-forth contest, which didn't end within the allotted time of three minutes. The match ended in a draw and the two former tag team champions were both eliminated from the tournament.
Austin Theory looked frustrated after failing to secure the win as he continued to punch his opponent even after the bell rang. WWE recently shared a backstage interview clip of the former United States Champion claiming he should be the Speed Champion. He further addressed his post-match actions while sending a message to the champion, Andrade.
"I don't even wanna hear what you got to say. I should be the Speed Champion. Everybody in that tournament would have been beat. A-Town Down. And they are gonna put me out there like that? You saw how it ended. It got nasty because I'm not playing around. Whoever has got that championship, oh you're lucky because it would've been me," he said.
Former WWE Champion impressed with Austin Theory
Austin Theory had an impressive start to his main roster run, winning the 2022 Money in the Bank ladder match. He appeared to be among Vince McMahon's favorite young stars on the roster. However, following the latter's departure from the company, Theory's booking has been very inconsistent.
However, irrespective of the outcome of his matches, the SmackDown Superstar has impressed several people with his work, including former WWE Champion Randy Orton. During his conversation with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter, The Viper praised Theory, claiming he will definitely become a World Champion one day.
"It's hard, I don't have a crystal ball or anything, but Austin Theory is young and he's got a great look. I know where his head's at. I've had plenty of talks with him, and a lot of the things that I did as a kid that I maybe shouldn't have, the distractions that I was confronted with, he doesn't have those. I think he's just a little more gung-ho, motivated. He sees the goal, he sees the prize, he knows what he wants. I think he'll definitely be a world champion one day," he said. [From 1:32 onwards]
WWE has been teasing a potential split between Austin Theory and Grayson Waller ever since they lost the Tag Team Championship. It will be interesting to see how long the duo can stay together.
