Former WWE Champion to return after two-year hiatus to announce his in-ring retirement, says Matt Morgan, in a major storyline swerve
WWE had banned the Piledriver move for years, but recently brought it back to intensify the feud between Randy Orton and Kevin Owens. Meanwhile, wrestling veteran Matt Morgan recently pitched a storyline for former WWE Champion Big E.
The New Day member hasn't competed inside the squared circle ever since he broke his neck during a tag team match on the March 11 episode of SmackDown in 2022. Big E fractured his C1 and C6 vertebrae but fortunately didn't require surgery.
A few months ago, the 38-year-old superstar disclosed that he would soon get another round of scans to reevaluate his wrestling future.
Speaking on the Gigantic Pop podcast, Matt Morgan suggested the former WWE Champion could return to announce his in-ring retirement as part of an angle in which Xavier Woods could Piledrive his injured friend to cement his heel turn.
"So let's pretend, just work with me that Big E is gonna tell the public he can never wrestle again, ever. Okay, let's pretend that's the truth, and the real secret between him and his boys is, 'Look, I can't wrestle again, but I can take a bump. I can take one bump. You guys are taking great, great care of my neck, okay, and my back.' And they Piledrive him or something like that. That could be a really, really good storyline," he said.
Morgan added:
"If it's my boy Creed [Xavier Woods]. It has to be Creed because he has a heel in him that you all don't know about. I know him personally. He's a heel waiting to happen because he's so damn good!" [46:30-47:58]
The former SmackDown Superstar went on to say that if Big E is cleared to take bumps again, WWE should bring him back to further the storyline between Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Blockbuster WrestleMania 41 match pitched featuring WWE Superstar Big E
With WWE set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The New Day later this month, one would expect to see Big E return to ease the tension between Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.
Speaking on the Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts addressed the idea of Big E being the special guest referee for a potential WrestleMania match between The New Day members next year.
"It's possible. I mean, I see it going another way; I would like for it to go the other way, but I would agree. I mean, the slow burn on The New Day thing is incredibly, incredibly compelling," he said.
The New Day will be in action against Otis and Akira Tozawa of the Alpha Academy on next week's edition of RAW. Will the 12-time tag team champions be able to work on the same page and pick up the victory? Or will the matter get worse? Only time will tell!
