Former WWE champion sends a message to Goldberg ahead of his retirement match; says he won't get squashed like Brock Lesnar
Goldberg recently announced that his retirement match is happening in WWE next year. While there's no clear opponent for the Hall of Famer, former Intercontinental Champion Ryback sent a message to him while referencing Brock Lesnar.
In an appearance on ESPN's Gameday earlier this month, the former World Heavyweight Champion announced that he will be wrestling his final match in 2025. He seemingly agreed with WWE executives about his plans and teased a potential face-off against Gunther.
One of the stars who have been clamoring for a match against the former Universal Champion is Ryback. The Big Guy took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to send a message to Goldberg. He alluded to the infamous squash match involving Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2016.
"He will never squash me. Ryback™️," he tweeted.
More than 12 years since his last WWE appearance in 2016, Goldberg shocked the world when he squashed Brock Lesnar in under two minutes. He hit two Spears before landing a Jackhammer for the win.
It led to a push for Goldberg, who won the Universal Championship from Kevin Owens before losing it to Lesnar at WrestleMania 33. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018 and secured the Universal Title for the second time from The Fiend.
Goldberg handpicked Braun Strowman to beat him at WrestleMania 36
Due to the pandemic in 2020, there were no people in attendance for WrestleMania 36. Braun Strowman captured his only Universal Championship at the event, beating Goldberg in less than three minutes.
On Insight with Chris Van Vliet in May, Strowman revealed that he was handpicked by the Hall of Famer for his bout at WrestleMania 36. He appreciated the vote of confidence, not just from the legend but also from WWE management.
"It meant the world because I like I said, as a kid growing up idolizing him to becoming friends with him you know, unfortunate circumstances with everything going on with the pandemic and what happened, he wanted me. So he picked me to do that and do the honors and pass that torch," Strowman said. [H/T: Fightful]
It will be interesting to see which superstar will get the opportunity to retire Da Man next year. He's not the only legend who will officially hang it up next year since John Cena's farewell tour begins in January and ends in December 2025.
