Former WWE Champion teases bringing back old gimmick ahead of RAW

WWE fans should tune in tonight for an exciting season premiere of Monday Night RAW, live from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Hometown hero, the legendary Bret "The Hitman" Hart, has already been announced for the show. It appears The Calgary Kid could make an appearance as well.

Two-time WWE Champion The Miz teased bringing back a gimmick he once used on the flagship show many years ago.

During his 2009 feud with John Cena, The Miz was fired as per prior stipulation after losing to Cena in a Lumberjack Match. The A-Lister managed to sneak back onto the red brand shortly after, but the fans did not find out about this until later, thanks to a mask he wore.

The Calgary Kid wrestled former WWE Superstar Eugene for a contract, which was hung at the top of a pole. The first competitor to retrieve the contract would join RAW. This was Eugene's first match for the company in two years.

After defeating Eugene, The Calgary Kid, who fans received favorably, hit a familiar move before revealing himself to be The Miz. Ahead of tonight's special episode of RAW in Calgary, The A-Lister took to X to tease the return of The Calgary Kid:

"Tonight #WWERaw is live on @USANetwork in Calgary. Should I bring him back? #CalgaryKid," wrote The Miz.

While The Miz feuded with John Cena, he had retained his ring attire from his days as a tag team wrestler alongside John Morrison. As The Calgary Kid, he wore red trunks and a red mask, donning the classic Canadian maple leaf. Suffice it to say that The Calgary Kid's gear influenced The A-Lister's later run in the Stamford-based promotion.

The Miz went on to win WWE's Money in the Bank one year later

Reflecting on his Money in the Bank 2010 win—his first of two—The Miz stated that it was the moment that changed his career forever.

The A-Lister went on to win the WWE Championship from Randy Orton. He headlined WrestleMania opposite John Cena and won, among many other major accomplishments.

"I never utlized it for anything," The Miz revealed. "It was just the contract that was in it. I just walk around with it. Like, you're in the airport, you have to explain a million times what the Money in the Bank contract is, which I didn't mind, because it was truly an honor to hold this briefcase and this contract."

The A-Lister further claimed that winning the contract changed his life:

"This changed my life. Changed my career. I don't know, if I didn't win this contract, if I would have become the superstar that I am today."

A decade later, he managed to grab hold of the briefcase again, successfully cashing in on Drew McIntyre at Elimination Chamber 2021 for a second reign with the company's top prize.
