Former WWE Champion wants to return after more than a year to wrestle John Cena
John Cena's WWE retirement tour announcement has sent shockwaves through the wrestling business. Many current and former superstars are throwing their hat in the ring in the hopes they will be chosen to wrestle the 16-time World Champion.
One of the men to come forward is former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam. The former ECW Champion was last seen on screens back in April 2023 as part of the annual draft.
While speaking on his One of a King Podcast, Rob Van Dam opened up about wanting to return to wrestle Cena as part of his retirement tour:
“I hope they bring me in for a rematch with Cena. That would be super cool. I don’t know if they know, but I know I could have that same match. Absolutely.”
At 53 years old it seems that RVD is winding down his career and could be looking at retirement the same as Cena in the coming years.
John Cena will work a number of WWE events throughout 2025
John Cena announced that he would be part of a lengthy retirement tour throughout 2025, but didn't state the date that it would end. He noted that it would be his final Royal Rumble and WrestleMania appearance, but it would go on past WrestleMania and include a number of pre-arranged dates.
Cena is expected to wrestle many of the current roster and be a major influence on the deal with Netflix which becomes official in January 2025.
There are several former stars including Matt Cardona, who was once known as Zack Ryder who also want to return to face Cena, but as of yet, there have been no official reports on potential opponents for Cena, since the plans appear to remain up in the air with around five months of the year yet to go.
