Former WWE employee discusses working with the McMahon family and what made them successful (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about his working relationship with Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon. He also discussed how the McMahon family members were different from former TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter.
Russo was WWE's head writer during the Attitude Era. He is widely credited with some of the most successful angles in the company at the time. The 63-year-old also worked in other promotions like WCW and TNA Wrestling following his departure from the global juggernaut.
On this week's episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Vince Russo mentioned that he worked with Stephanie back in the day but didn't know how she was to work with now.
He mentioned that Vince was amazing during the Attitude Era. Russo said the legendary promoter managed to address everyone who needed to talk to him and always remembered whatever was said to him. Meanwhile, the former writer claimed that Carter was hard to work with and they had to go over the show for several hours before taping it.
"Well, I didn't work with the older Stephanie McMahon, I worked with the younger Stephanie. So I don't know how Mrs. Levesque was to work with so I couldn't say. Dixie was hard to work with. Vince understood when he was a character on the show. Vince understood that this Vince had to get to 50 other people so Vince didn't expect to take three hours of my time. You would tell Vince stuff one time and that was it. That was it, one time. Dixie, you had to spend so much time with her on every single show. Linda McMahon was successful because she was very, very, very smart." [From 56:17 onwards]
After the recent lawsuit against Vince McMahon, Stephanie is the only McMahon family member who has been seen on TV. She appeared on Night Two of WrestleMania XL and also made an appearance on an episode of RAW during the 2024 WWE Draft.
It will be interesting to see whether any other members of the McMahon family ever show up on WWE TV again.
