Former WWE manager praises unlikely star for CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre buildupĀ

WWE stars Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will finally get their hands on each other at SummerSlam. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce made the match official this week.

Pearce has been in the middle of several rivalries on the flagship show. The GM has had a tough time controlling Drew McIntyre's temper tantrums after his ambitions of winning the World Title were thwarted by CM Punk repeatedly. Pearce even had to suspend Drew for getting physical with WWE officials after Money in the Bank.

On a recent episode of Jim Cornette's Drive-Thru, the veteran praised Pearce for holding his own while on screen with these megastars. He felt this was a big change from his gimmick a couple of years ago where he barely spoke on the mic. He felt Pearce was showing a lot more character and adding more intensity to the feuds.

"Pearce is doing a tremendous job because you can tell they're letting him be more of a personality and more of himself rather than the dry guy that was making a match or standing in the ring for a contract signing two years ago. Now he's firing up because he can cut promos. He was a wrestler that many of these audiences may not know." [From 1:01 - 1:30]

CM Punk is cleared to compete at SummerSlam

This week on RAW, CM Punk appeared to make an announcement for the WWE Universe. He revealed that he was cleared to wrestle and wanted to fight Drew McIntyre who was also in the building.

Before things descended into chaos, Adam Pearce took control of the situation and announced that the two stars were not allowed to lay hands on each other before their scheduled match at SummerSlam.

Pearce also mentioned that Seth Rollins would be taking over officiating duties for the match as the special guest referee.
