Former WWE name recalls actual backstage reaction to Vince McMahon's retirement
Vince McMahon's Netflix documentary has ensured the retired wrestling booker remains in the news. Former WWE host Matt Camp recently shed some light on internal reactions to McMahon's messy ouster.
The 79-year-old announced his retirement for the first time in 2022 after he was under fire over hush-money allegations.
McMahon's retirement came via a rare tweet, shaking the wrestling business to its core. While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Matt Camp revealed that most people within WWE reacted positively to McMahon's exit.
He eventually returned to oversee the company's sale, but a lawsuit from ex-employee Janel Grant led to his second departure from the WWE.
Camp even noted that people in WWE weren't very surprised when McMahon came back:
"I will tell you, when he retired the first time, everybody was happy. I shouldn't say everybody, but a lot of us were happy. And then he came back, and there was not a surprise. I remember the second time, at the beginning of this year, in January, when all that stuff came out again, I said as soon as the money gets pulled, then he will be gone again." [From 3:30 onwards]
Matt Camp is certain some current WWE personnel are still loyal to Vince McMahon
Vince McMahon's resurgence and another downfall happened pretty quickly, as the lawsuit from Janel Grant was filed only earlier this year.
The disturbing allegations against McMahon were looked upon with disgust by the WWE Universe online. The situation in the promotion might not have been any different, as Matt Camp stated that his colleagues were appalled by the development.
Camp, however, added that there were still Vince McMahon loyalists employed in WWE:
"I remember the second time everybody felt like (disgusted), can we get this out of here? And there are people to this day who are in that company who will remain loyal to Vince." [From 4:02 onwards]
Amid mounting legal troubles and the recently released documentary, Vince McMahon's future continues to be under an intense spotlight.
