Former WWE official comments on major Money in the Bank botch
WWE presented its 15th annual Money in the Bank Premium Live Event on Saturday. The PLE was full of surprises and significant happenings, but there were also a few notable botches. Longtime official, Mike Chioda also just weighed in on one of the bigger mishaps from yesterday's premium live event.
Damian Priest retained his World Heavyweight Championship over Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank. The match stipulations were such that if Rollins were to lose, he would be barred from challenging for the title as long as Priest was champion, and that is what transpired.
Towards the end of the bout, The Visionary delivered a Falcon Arrow to The Archer of Infamy, and despite Priest not kicking out on time, the referee stopped counting at two, insisting there had been a kick-out. This was one of the bigger botches of the night.
Drew McIntyre then appeared with his newly won MITB briefcase amid the confusion between the challenger and referee, and the match was officially changed to a Triple Threat. CM Punk appeared from nowhere and ended up attacking The Scottish Warrior, which led to Priest getting the pinfall over McIntyre to retain.
Fightful Select now reports that the World Heavyweight Championship match was produced by Jason Jordan. The referee for the match was Rod Zapata, who has been with the company since 2010. Former WWE senior referee, Mike Chioda also offered thoughts on the botch by his former colleague taking to X (formerly Twitter).
Chioda was the longest-tenured referee in company history when his 31-year run came to an end in April 2020 due to budget cuts.
"Yeah they definitely weren't on the same page!! [laughing emoji]," Mike Chioda wrote.
Rollins could be up for a rematch against Priest because of the botched call, but that has not been confirmed as of this writing. New details on the incident, why it happened, and internal reactions also came to light, earlier today.
