Former WWE star demands to face Bobby Lashley amid departure rumors

Bobby Lashley is rumored to depart WWE. Amidst these rumors, a former WWE star has demanded a match against him.

Matt Cardona wrestled for WWE for several years under the ring name Zack Ryder until his eventual departure in 2020. Since then, he has plied his trade on the independent scene and established himself as a main event star. Now, his confidence is high enough that he is ready to challenge anyone, even Bobby Lashley.

The All Mighty returned to WWE in 2018 and enjoyed a successful run initially, winning the Intercontinental Championship and the WWE Championship. After a dominant start to his second run, Lashley's star power began to fade away. He tried to form a new faction with The Street Profits and B-Fab but hasn't been seen on TV in recent weeks.

Recently, rumors started doing the rounds that his contract with WWE is set to expire this week, and he will most likely leave the company. It now appears that Lashley already has an opponent waiting for him.

Matt Cardona recently took to social media to emphatically state that he wants to face The All Mighty.

"I WANT LASHLEY," wrote Cardona.

Bill Apter explains why Bobby Lashley must not leave WWE for AEW

Given Bobby Lashley's athletic prowess, it should come as no surprise that he might attract attention from many promotions, including All Elite Wrestling. However, the decision to move to AEW may not be the best move for his career.

Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine hosted by Mac Davis, Bill Apter stated that Lashley should not join AEW simply because there is no heavyweight there who can match him physically.

"He looks like pumped, and an athlete, he really takes care of himself. Who in AEW would be going against Bobby Lashley who is physically, looks like a monster? I can't think of any 'Heavyweight' in AEW that would be an equal match to him. Who would that be?" [4:45 onwards]

Deals in WWE can be struck at the last minute, as seen before. Hence, WWE and Lashley could end up striking a new deal before his contract expires.
