Former WWE star pleads no contest to attempted murder charge

A former WWE Superstar pleaded no contest to attempted murder and gun charges. The star in question has not competed in a match in WWE since Crown Jewel in 2019.

Cain Velasquez pleaded no contest today regarding an incident in 2022. Velasquez chased after a man accused of molesting his son and repeatedly shot at him. However, he accidentally wounded the man's father-in-law instead in the car chase.

Robert Salonga of the East Bay Times reported that Velasquez pleaded no contest to attempted murder and the gun charges against him. As a result of the deal, the former UFC star will avoid a mandatory life sentence. Velasquez is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on October 18.

Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez reignited their rivalry from the UFC in WWE several years ago. The Beast Incarnate defeated Velasquez in a quick match at Crown Jewel 2019. Velasquez competed in one more match for the promotion at a live event before his departure.

Former WWE star recalls awkward interaction with Cain Velasquez

NWA Champion EC3 recently detailed a humorous interaction he had with Cain Velasquez at the WWE Performance Center.

Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws show, EC3 discussed having a conversation at the Performance Center with Velasquez while he was training. Brock Lesnar's theme music came on and Velasquez didn't recognize it. EC3 noted that he tried to joke with the former MMA star about defeating Lesnar in UFC.

"Funny, quick story. We were at the Performance Center, and we're all in the gym, and they are filming a video, they hadn't used licensed music, so they were playing westlers' theme songs, and Brock's song came on. He was sitting there, working out next to me, and I'm like, 'Hey.' [He goes], 'Yeah'. 'You beat him.' He's like, 'What do you mean?' [laughs]. I'm like, 'it's Brock Lesnar's theme song.'" Brock Lesnar has not appeared since his loss to Cody Rhodes at last year's SummerSlam. It will be interesting to see the result of Velasquez's sentencing later this year.
