Former WWE star provides Jerry Lawler health update

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler suffered a stroke in February 2023. Dutch Mantell, one of Lawler's legendary former opponents, recently gave an update on the wrestling icon's condition.

Lawler is widely viewed as one of the greatest commentators and in-ring competitors in wrestling history. Earlier this month, his WWE broadcasting deal was not renewed after a 32-year-old association with the company.

On Story Time with Dutch Mantell, Mantell said he had received information that Lawler had recently suffered another minor stroke.

"I heard he had another one, a minor one, but he did have another one within the last two or three weeks, I heard, or it may have been a month. But there must have been not a lot to it," said Mantell. [34:04 – 34:21]

Lawler and Mantell feuded in Memphis in the 1980s. The latter went on to work for WWE as an on-screen manager under the names Uncle Zebekiah and Zeb Colter.

According to Mantell, people at the convention told him that despite his recent troubles, Lawler seemed to look in good health.

"Talking to the guys who went, Lawler is not the Lawler of old, of course, and his voice is not the same as it was, but they said he looked pretty good. Other than that, the people, they love Lawler. They've always liked him," he said. [35:11 – 35:59]

Lawler became a beloved figure with WWE fans thanks to his commentary alongside Jim Ross during the Attitude Era. Before joining WWE, he was best known for his legendary wrestling career in Memphis.
