Former WWE star teases WrestleMania rematch as part of huge potential crossover between promotions
A former WWE superstar teased a WrestleMania rematch as part of a potential interpromotional crossover. Mustafa Ali, who is currently signed to TNA Wrestling, is open to defending his X-Division Championship against former rival Cedric Alexander.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Alexander asked about what lies ahead following the surprise appearance of TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace on NXT. Grace is set to challenge Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women's Championship at NXT Battleground.
Alexander is interested in a cross-promotional matchup against Ali for the X-Division Title.
"So does this mean I can finally challenge for the #XDivision title," Alexander asked.
Mustafa Ali is not technically signed to TNA Wrestling, despite holding one of their championships. Ali is on a per-appearance deal with TNA, as well as New Japan Pro Wrestling and other independent promotions. Despite his status in TNA and recent release from WWE, Ali is open to Cedric Alexander's challenge.
"I had a shot at your cruiserweight title. I should return the favor…," Ali replied.
Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander faced off at WrestleMania 34 for the vacant Cruiserweight Championship. Alexander prevailed after a back-and-forth match against Ali, who was released from WWE back in September, despite being slated to have a match for the NXT North American Championship.
Mustafa Ali on being released by WWE
In an interview with Straight Talk Wrestling back in March, Mustafa Ali opened up about his surprise release from WWE. Ali was not upset or emotional when it happened, explaining that he understood that the company was just doing business.
"There was no emotional like sadness associated with it. I'm a very business-oriented person. I know what I'm capable of. WWE is a huge entity. It's a promotional machine and oftentimes what happens is, guys at the top of the card are in those positions for a reason. Obviously, we always hear about the revenue, breaking records that they're making. So they obviously know what they're doing. I as an individual always believe in the mantra of, 'If you really believe in it, you're willing to bet on yourself,'" Ali said.
