Former WWE Superstar refuses to vacate major title following injury
A former WWE Superstar has refused to vacate his title following a major injury. The star in question suffered a torn pec earlier this year but is still making appearances.
Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, tore his pec earlier this year and recently underwent stem cell treatment. Cardona took to X/Twitter today to share a video of himself appearing in World Series Wrestling.
He said that he would not be relinquishing his WSW World Championship despite being on the shelf with an injury.
"But World Series Wrestling management, they want a big fight feel tonight in the main event. They want the world title defended tonight in the main event. And since I can't compete, they reccommended that I give up this championship. So I have an announcement to make: I will never vacate this championship! I will be the WSW World Champion forever!" he said. [From 00:01 - 00:49]
Matt Cardona discusses his time in WWE
Former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona has shared that he will forever be grateful for the time he spent in the promotion.
Speaking with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Kevin Kellam in an exclusive interview earlier last month, Cardona shared that he was grateful for getting to be in the promotion because it helped set him up for his run on the independent wrestling scene.
He added that he has found the most success in his career during the past four years outside of the company.
"Listen, I am forever grateful for my time in WWE and of course, my time in WWE set me up for this independent run. But I knew I couldn't just be Matt Cardona but still be Zack Ryder. I knew I had to do a complete 180 and that's exactly what I did. When I first got released, I didn't know what I was gonna do. I knew I needed something and it was the death match with Nick Gage that started it all. I capitalized on that and I built upon that and these past four years have been the most successful years of my career. I don't care how you define success - money, accolades, happiness, most successful whether you want to count accolades, money, or happiness." [From 4:31 onwards]

The veteran is married to Chelsea Green in real life, who will be competing in the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder match this Saturday night in Toronto. Only time will tell if Cardona ever returns to the promotion down the line.
