Former WWE Superstar reveals being part of iconic tag team wasn't originally planned

Plans often change in WWE, and a former star recently revealed she was not originally going to be part of an iconic tag team. Layla El was one-half of LayCool with Michelle McCool, and it almost never happened.

LayCool was one of the most unexpected team-ups in WWE history. They were named the 37th greatest tag team in history by the company's official website. They held the Divas Championship simultaneously, while also having their own reigns as WWE Women's Champions.

However, LayCool was never part of the original plans, as revealed by Layla in an appearance on the No Name Wrestling podcast. The two-time champion explained that it was supposed to be McCool and Alicia Fox, but she had too much chemistry with Michelle that the company went with them instead.

"LayCool wasn't actually supposed to happen. It was going to be, I think, Michelle McCool and Alicia Fox, originally, that's who I think they had originally for that," Layla said. [H/T Wrestling, Inc.]

LayCool was together for almost two years before breaking up in 2011. Michelle McCool abruptly retired from wrestling at Extreme Rules that same year after losing a Loser Leaves Town match against Layla, who also retired three years later.

Layla open to LayCool reunion and going after WWE Women's Tag Team Championship

In the same interview with the No Name Wrestling podcast, Layla was asked if she was open to reuniting with Michelle McCool and going after the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship.

Layla, who was not open to the idea before, is good to go if a potential reunion happens.

"Before, absolutely 100% no, I was not open to anything, I wanted a break, I wanted to get away. But now? Absolutely. Before I get too old and I can’t come back and do anything, yeah, one more time. I would honestly come back to do a LayCool reunion," Layla said. [H/T Fightful]

Since retiring in 2011, Michelle McCool has wrestled in three Royal Rumble matches and one Battle Royale. Layla, on the other hand, has not performed since her last match in July 2015.
