Former WWE Superstar wants to face CM Punk or Chris Jericho at Forbidden Door 2
Former WWE Superstar Fred Rosser is looking at either CM Punk or Chris Jericho as his possible opponents at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2.
Rosser, who was known as Darren Young in WWE, currently performs for NJPW. He was released by WWE in 2017 and went on to wrestle for several independent promotions before signing with NJPW in 2020.
In an interview with The Wrstling Podcast, Rosser was asked who he'd want to face at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2 next month in Toronto. The former WWE Tag Team Champion wants Punk or Jericho because it would be great for his career.
"That’s a good question, I'm just focused with New Japan," Rosser said. "Who would I want to wrestle? I'd wanna wrestle Chris Jericho, CM Punk. It would be full circle with CM Punk. He was my coach on the original NXT, which was like a game show, which I hated."
Rosser went on to say that although he and Punk barely spoke to each other, it would elevate him to work with the Straight Edge Superstar or The Ocho on a big stage.
"He pretty much hated doing it too, during the time we didn't really say two words to one another. Full circle, I'm a lot older, I'm a lot wiser. I’m like wine, I age gracefully with time. I definitely feel like working against Jericho or CM Punk would help elevate me." (h/t Fightful)
Fred Rosser has had success in NJPW and is a former Strong Openweight Champion. Meanwhile, Jericho and Punk are currently signed with AEW. Jericho continues to defy Father Time, while Punk has been embroiled in controversy over the past year.
AEW reportedly sends legal notice to CM Punk
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding CM Punk's return to AEW as part of the new show Collision, premiering on June 17th. However, it seems like Punk may not be a part of it after all since he's not on the promotional materials for it.
Problems between Punk and AEW reportedly stem from Ace Steel's status with the company. AEW wants Steel to work remotely, while Punk prefers to have him backstage at Collision.
According to Wrestling Inc. founder Raj Giri, AEW sent a legal notice to the former WWE Champion to fulfill his contract or face a lawsuit.
"AEW sent a legal notice to Punk yesterday that he either has to comply or they're gonna file a suit against him," Giri said. (h/t Cultaholic)
Punk signed with AEW back in 2021, seven years after leaving WWE and retiring from professional wrestling. However, problems arose a year later between Punk and members of The Elite, including Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and Adam Page.
