Former WWE World Champion takes a shot at CM Punk; says 38-year old star was 'the guy' when Roman Reigns was not ready
The CM Punk-Seth Rollins saga kicked off the latest edition of WWE RAW when both men ended up brawling with each other after a war of words. The Visionary interfered during CM Punk's kick-off promo and was infuriated at the star for teaming up with Roman Reigns.
While a lot of what Rollins said made sense, it felt like the star was turning heel with fans quite in favor of CM Punk. This further led to an argument between Rollins and Sami Zayn, eventually leading to a match between both men on the red brand.
During a recent episode of the Busted Open Podcast, former WWE World Champion Dolph Ziggler addressed the segment and heaped praise on Seth Rollins. The former WWE star stated that The Visionary was always the go-to guy for the company, even when other stars didn't work out, including Roman Reigns.
"I am partial for that too because there was this 5-6 year window, personally, when him and I would constantly going at it…as Roman was becoming this above and beyond character, at the moment, it felt like we were trying to create Seth as the full-time one. He’s our go-to guy. And a lot of people forget that…he was the anchor that held this place down for several years in a row and back and forth on several different occasions when other people didn’t work out. I assure you, I know that because I was there usually on the foil on the other side," said Ziggler. [3:53 onwards]
Further, the former WWE Superstar also questioned fans' decision to tease turning on Seth Rollins when the latter was the guy who worked with the company in every situation. He also took a shot at CM Punk for walking away from the company when he felt he wasn't getting what he deserved.
"So when you have that built into that character and then no matter what they say whether they happen to be saying something that you agree with or don’t, or making some really good points against Punk, that is engrained in brain, like even subconsciously… He was the guy no matter what he got, came back and said ‘I am the guy who’s the franchise player here’.... there’s always that background like ‘This was the guy who stayed because he loved the fans, loved the business, loved what he was doing, believed in what he was doing, and knew that one day down the line it was going to break for him’...there’s something really special about that I think, he added [4:45 onwards]
