Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion returning to be Gunther's first new challenger (Exclusive)
Gunther reclaimed his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW. The 37-year-old lost the title at WrestleMania 41 to Jey Uso but vanquished the ghosts of his past this past Monday. He defeated The Yeet Master to become world champion again.
The Ring General has been a champion for the majority of his WWE career. His journey started in NXT UK, where he had an 870-day title reign. Following his call-up to the main roster, he became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time and then proceeded to win the World Heavyweight Title.
Gunther's next challenger was discussed on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge's WrestleVotes Q&A. During the chat, WrestleVotes claimed that the Austrian star's first goldberg-vs-gunther-blockbuster-wwe-dream-match-worries-veteran-explains-one-major-reason-exclusive" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-is-sponsored="false">challenger besides Jey Uso might be former WWE World Champion Goldberg. A match between the two has been teased in the past and would be a spectacle.
"The first new challenger I'd imagine is Goldberg. I mean, that's where we were going before he won the title last night, I don't think it's changed. So, the date on the calendar is July 12th. Jey could have that rematch there [Saudi Arabia] if he's on the card, but as far as new challengers go, we're about a month away from Saturday Night's Main Event and that's supposedly the target for him and Goldberg," he said. Former Universal Champion Goldberg announced last year that his final match in WWE would take place in 2025. Gunther and Da Man got into a confrontation at Bad Blood 2024, and given their history, a title vs. career match between the two could be on the cards.
