WWE News: Comedian Gabriel Iglesias to appear on Smackdown

Gabriel Iglesias will lend his brand of humour to Smackdown Live

One of the most celebrated stand-up comics in the world, Gabriel Iglesias is set to appear and lend star power to the blue brand next week. The following was reported on WWE.com:

‘Tuesday at 8/7 C on USA Network, celebrated comedian Gabriel Iglesias is headed to Smackdown Live as part of WWE Week.

Not only is Iglesias one of America’s most successful stand-up comedians who performs to sold-out crowds around the world, he is one of the most watched comedians on YouTube. His non-scripted comedic docu-series "Fluffy Breaks Even” begins its third season on Fuse TV early next year’.

It is unclear what Iglesias’ role will be when he appears on the blue brand, and whether he will be part of an in-ring or backstage segment at the show. This is not his first involvement with World Wrestling Entertainment, as the celebrated comedian had posted a parody video for Tough Enough in the past, on WWE’s Youtube Channel.

The mock ‘audition’ video showed Iglesias pretending to be a contestant on the show, and taking out a man who claimed that he was a silly comedian. The icing on the cake was his line- ‘I squat pretty white boys for breakfast. And lunch!’

This appearance coincides with Iglesias spending two decades in the comedy circuit. It is also probably a promotional tactic to launch his world tour in a co-branded initiative with WWE. According to WWE.com:

‘Celebrating twenty years in stand-up comedy, Iglesias will also launch a new world tour, FluffyMania World Tour: 20 Years of Comedy, this February.

How will Iglesias fare when he comes to Team Blue? Find out this Tuesday as WWE Week rolls through Smackdown Live’.

WWE has never shied away from getting mainstream stars to the promotion in order to attract new viewers to the product. Last week, Smackdown Live saw singer Sophia Grace in a segment with Nikki Bella, in which she said that she had Nikki’s back.

This was in reference to the attack on Nikki Bella from an unknown assailant leading up to her match against Team Raw at Survivor Series, when she was team captain. A clip from their interaction can be seen here.

Previously, stars from the 70s Show, Danny Masterton and Ashton Kutcher were involved in a segment with Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens to promote their show ‘The Ranch’.

Who will Iglesias confront? Let’s all tune in next week and find out, then.
