WWE News: Goldberg says that the hatred for Roman Reigns is misplaced

Goldberg urges fans to go easy on Roman

What’s the story?

With WrestleMania 33 just around the corner, WWE Universal Champion Goldberg appeared in the latest edition of the Ross Report to have a chat with Jim Ross.

During the podcast, Goldberg spoke on fans booing Roman Reigns and also gave his thoughts about Braun Strowman as well as his WrestleMania opponent, Brock Lesnar.

In case you didn’t know...

The feud between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg is well documented. It began with Lesnar challenging Goldberg to a match Survivor Series.

When Goldberg accepted Lesnar’s challenge, fantasy warfare turned real. In what is considered to be one of the epic returns in WWE history, Goldberg defeated Lesnar in less than two minutes at Survivor Series and shocked the world.

Ever since then, Lesnar has been itching to get his revenge on Goldberg. Their encounter at Royal Rumble went in a disappointing fashion for Lesnar again. The duo will meet once again in the ring at WrestleMania 33 and will face each other to bring a conclusive end to their feud.

The heart of the matter

In his talk with JR, Goldberg commented on fans booing Reigns. He stated that their hatred was misplaced and urged fans to understand that Roman is doing only his job.

Speaking of the other Samoan in the roster, he claimed that Samoa Joe is “very entertaining.”

"It's a weird deal, man. Reading about it and hearing about it from afar, and then, being there and experiencing it, man, they've got such hatred towards this kid for no reason whatsoever.

I mean, I see the reason, but people have to understand that you can't personally take it out on that guy because that guy is performing a job.

He's doing what he's doing, but I think he's very entertaining. I think the kid can work his ass off."

Speaking of his WrestleMania opponent, Goldberg likened him to former WCW legend Scott Steiner. He stated that Brock Lesnar was a bigger, badder version of Scott Steiner. He also said that Brock is more athletic than Steiner and that he is also powerful.

Goldberg was quoted as saying:

"He's a 6'4", 290 lbs. Scott Steiner. I mean, I can't tell you much more than that.

That's the best analogy I can give you. Brock's just a bigger, badder version of that guy right there. He's more athletic and he's just a powerful dude."

When asked about his opinion on Strowman, Goldberg stated that Braun Strowman had unbelievable talent and if he is properly taken care of, then the sky is the limit for him. Here’s what he had to say:

"Yeah, he's a monster, man. No question about it. I think them having him do 10, 15 minute matches is why they're saying, 'Goldberg, you need to do more than two moves'.

But, hey, man, the guy [has] got unbelievable talent. I would do a couple of things differently if I were him or I was management, but I have imparted my knowledge to him and, hopefully, it won't be something that is frowned upon.

I think the guy's an unbelievable talent and, hell, if properly taken care of, the sky's the limit."

What’s next?

Goldberg will face The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 with the WWE Universal Championship on the line. The match is reported to go second last in the night since WWE has changed the Reigns vs Taker match as the main event for the night after internal voting, reportedly.

Given that Goldberg’s current contract with WWE expires at WrestleMania 33, it will be interesting to see how WWE books this match.

Author’s take

If one considers impartially, Goldberg may be right about the unnatural heat Reigns has generated.

Though Reigns is only doing his job, it is hard not to hate someone when they are being shoved down our throats. The only salvation for Reigns rests in the hands of WWE Management and not in the hands of fans.
