Gunther once again beats WWE Hall of Famer at recent show
The former longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion, Gunther, wrestled at the recent SuperShow Live Event in Osaka, Japan. He now has a clean 2-0 win record in a singles match over Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio.
In June 2022, The Ring General dethroned Ricochet to become the new IC Champion. During his title defenses, The Master of 619 challenged the 36-year-old on an episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The Imperium member, however, pinned the legendary luchador.
On July 25, 2024, at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan, Gunther went head-to-head against the LWO member in a non-televised singles match. Even though the crowd was behind Rey Mysterio, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion once again defeated his opponent.
Former writer believes WWE is planning a controversial finish for Gunther's match at SummerSlam
The 36-year-old star defeated Randy Orton to become the King of the Ring 2024 in Saudi Arabia. The Ring General secured a World Heavyweight Championship shot against Damian Priest at WWE SummerSlam 2024.
In an episode of Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo, Vince Russo claimed that The Judgment Day might accidentally cost The Archer of Infamy the title.
"You're going to tell me if The Judgment Day accidentally screws Damian Priest, you're going to tell me that helps Damian Priest? Neither one of those guys should be losing right now. That's why you should not be booking them against each other," he said.
The former WWE writer believes the company is going to put over Gunther so that fans get to witness Damian Priest vs. Finn Balor in the future.
"They're going to put Gunther over because they honestly believe people are going to be interested in Priest vs. Finn Balor. We spoke about that. They honestly believe that," Russo added.
