Gunther breaks character to take photo with former WWE rival
Gunther broke character today on social media to take a photograph with his former rival in WWE. The leader of Imperium won the King of the Ring tournament earlier this year to earn a title shot at WWE SummerSlam.
The Ring General had a historic reign as Intercontinental Champion that lasted 666 days. Sami Zayn defeated the 36-year-old at WrestleMania XL to become champion and will be defending the title against Bron Breakker at SummerSlam next month.
The promotion is currently on tour in Japan, and Daisuke Sekimoto shared an interesting post today on social media. The Japanese wrestler shared a post that included Sami Zayn and Gunther posing together while backstage. You can check out the photos in Sekimoto's post below.
Gunther will be challenging The Judgment Day's Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam. The two stars brawled this past Monday night and were sent home by RAW General Manager Adam Pearce.
Teddy Long praises Gunther's promo on WWE RAW
Wrestling veteran Teddy Long spoke highly of Gunther's promo this past Monday night on RAW.
Speaking on the latest episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, the Hall of Famer discussed the rivalry between Priest and the former Intercontinental Champion. Long noted that he was a fan of the World Heavyweight Champion and complimented Gunther for his heel promo. He stated the promo got on everyone's nerves and came off as real.
"I love Damian Priest, man," Long said. "He's such a great competitor, and plus entertainer too. He has everything going for him. I saw the promo that Gunther did. Pretty good promo. Those are the promos, whether they're the truth or not, but those are the promos that you've gotta get out there because that touches everybody's nerves. That promo there was real." [1:56 – 2:21]

Damian Priest won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre. It will be fascinating to see if The Archer of Infamy can extend his title reign by defeating Gunther at WWE SummerSlam.
