Gunther-Goldberg segment was a raging success, WWE legend says
WWE Hall of Famer and Atlanta's own, Goldberg, made his return to WWE at Bad Blood after nearly three years. World Heavyweight Champion Gunther's title defense against Sami Zayn happened on RAW, two nights after Bad Blood. While some may look at this as a demotion for The Ring General, he was instead booked for an in-ring segment with the WCW legend on Saturday.
Gunther took several digs at the two-time Universal Champion before finally saying to the latter's son Gage, "I really hope for you, that Bill is a better father than he is a professional wrestler." Booker T was all praise for this entire segment as Goldberg's reaction to those words really resonated with him.
Speaking on The Hall of Fame podcast, Booker claimed that everybody was a winner in that segment, be it the wrestlers involved and even the fans. He felt that the World Heavyweight Champion and the WCW legend "put together a show":
"That was great. Put together a show. Everybody won in that segment. It was really cool to see Goldberg get the 'Goldberg' chant in Atlanta, right there in his backyard. That's the way it's actually supposed to be. I loved every bit of that segment. 'You can say something about me, but don't talk about my boy,' it was one of those type of deals. He just got totally upset, and I can see that as a dad," Booker said. [From 22:54 to 23:36]
Goldberg's final match was against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022 in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, The Ring General retained his title against Sami Zayn this past Monday.
WWE CCO Triple H comments on Goldberg's potential in-ring return
During the Bad Blood post-show press conference, Triple H was asked point-blank about the WCW legend's in-ring status after the latter's confrontation with World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The Game responded positively, saying, "Never say never."
However, he also reminded the media that if it does not happen soon, chances of the match happening will be slim owing to the Hall of Famer's age. Perhaps it is a matter of figuring out creative and locking a deal at this point:
"We'll see," Triple H began, with regard to Gunther vs. Goldberg. "I saw Bill earlier in the day and it was great. I saw Bill later in the day, and there was a different look on his face with a spark in his eyes. So I would say never say never."
Although an in-ring return for the WCW legend cannot be ruled out, it has already been announced that the upcoming show in the Middle East will be headlined by Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther for the Crown Jewel Championship.
