Gunther won't lose the World Heavyweight Title until massive WWE Superstar returns, says ex-writer

Gunther has held the World Heavyweight Championship since WWE SummerSlam 2024. Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. has predicted The Ring General will remain champion until a massive superstar returns.

The wrestler in question is none other than Seth Rollins. The Visionary has been out of action for several weeks after falling victim to a brutal attack from Bronson Reed on Monday Night RAW. Meanwhile, Gunther successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin. He now seems to be heading into a feud with Sami Zayn.

On his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. predicted that the leader of Imperium would not lose his World Heavyweight Championship until Rollins returned. The 38-year-old was the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion of the modern era. He held the title for 316 days before dropping it to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40.

"I feel like no one beats him until Seth Rollins comes back. (...) You can take that to the bank on the next pay-per-view or premium live event when we make picks, I'm picking Gunther versus the field until Seth Rollins comes back," Prinze Jr. said. [14:40 - 15:14]

Will Sami Zayn face Gunther at WWE Bad Blood?

Sami Zayn challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship on two consecutive episodes of Monday Night RAW. However, The Ring General declined his challenge.

This past Monday, the two stars got into a brawl in front of Bret Hart's eyes. Following the confrontation, wrestling veteran Tommy Dreamer predicted on the Busted Open After Dark podcast that a match between Gunther and Zayn will be made official for WWE Bad Blood.

"I would bet the farm that we're gonna get a Sami vs. Gunther match at Bad Blood. It hasn't been announced yet, I don't believe. But man, that segment was pure money," he said.

Zayn remains the only superstar to pin Gunther since the latter's arrival on the main roster as he defeated The Ring General to capture the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. It would be interesting to see if the Canadian star would also be the one to end the 37-year-old's World Heavyweight Championship reign.
