Gunther names his Mount Rushmore of pro wrestling chops
Gunther is well known for scarring WWE opponents' chests with his signature chops during matches. In a recent interview, the RAW star named three other wrestlers whose chops were among the best in the world.
On the July 29 episode of RAW, The Ring General hit Finn Balor with multiple chops while defeating the Irishman in the main event. Balor took to social media after the bout to show off the damage his opponent inflicted on his chest.
Speaking on SHAK Wrestling, Gunther mentioned Kenta Kobashi and the late Shinya Hashimoto as two people who delivered devastating chops. He also took a light-hearted dig at Ric Flair while naming The Nature Boy on his Mount Rushmore of pro wrestling chops:
"Kenta Kobashi," Gunther said. "I'll say myself. Who else? Ric Flair was very known for his chops. Not very effective, though! He really, he spammed them a lot [laughs]. And then I think, you know what, I'd put in Hashimoto. He didn't have the knife-edge chop to the chest, but the one to the neck. I always enjoyed that." [1:58 – 2:29]
Wrestlers are often asked to name their Mount Rushmore of all-time greats. The likes of Bret Hart, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, and The Undertaker are usually among the selections.
Gunther on his backstage conversations with WWE opponents
Over the last few years, many WWE stars have been victims of the Austrian powerhouse's hard-hitting offense.
Asked if anyone has privately complained about his level of physicality pre-match backstage, Gunther gave the following response:
"Jokingly maybe but, like I said, it's just a hard truth of life that when you're in a wrestling match it gets physical." [1:20 – 1:30]
On May 25, the 36-year-old defeated Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring Tournament. As a result of the victory, he will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam on August 3.
