Gunther will lose his World Heavyweight Title to an unexpected WWE star at WrestleMania, says ex-employee

Gunther has held the World Heavyweight Championship since WWE SummerSlam 2024. Former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci believes a massive star will be the one to dethrone The Ring General.

The superstar in question is John Cena. The Cenation Leader will return for a farewell tour in 2025. Earlier this year, the 16-time World Champion confirmed that he will compete at Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41. On the Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word podcast, Tommy Carlucci predicted that Cena will win his 17th World Title at the Show of Shows next year.

Carlucci, who spent over 30 years in the Stamford-based company, claimed Gunther would hold the World Heavyweight Championship until WrestleMania 41 before losing it to The Cenation Leader.

"I think Gunther stays champion until WrestleMania and Cena faces him and Cena beats him," he said. [16:50 - 16:54]

John Cena addresses potentially winning his 17th World Title before retiring from WWE

Many WWE fans and experts believe John Cena will break his and Ric Flair's record of 16 world championship reigns. In a recent interview with Club Shay Shay, John Cena addressed whether he thinks that would happen.

The Cenation Leader pointed out that he might get a chance to fight for a world title if he wins the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, or Money in the Bank match. Meanwhile, he claimed he has to start winning in January so he could potentially earn a world title shot by December 2025.

"If I win the Royal Rumble, I get an automatic chance. There's been stakes put on the Elimination Chamber. If I win that, I might get an automatic chance at the championship. The Money in the Bank suitcase is a suitcase for a championship match anytime anywhere. So, that's what's cool about doing it over a year. There are these lottery chances where it could be like, 'Yo, he may break the record.' If that's even an option, I gotta start winning in January and I might earn a shot by December," he said.

Cena last wrestled on the RAW after WrestleMania in April. It will be interesting to see when the 47-year-old returns to WWE television.
