Hall of Famer is glad WWE Crown Jewel was not spoiled by top stars as predicted (Exclusive)
WWE is now on the Road to Survivor Series: WarGames now that the sixth Crown Jewel PLE has come and gone. The rumor mill ran rampant in the lead-up to today's premium live event, and while some aspects may have been spoiled, the show included swerves and surprises. The WWE Universe seems to be high on Crown Jewel 2024, and one familiar Hall of Famer agrees with some of that praise.
Cody Rhodes is the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion. Today's main event at Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh saw the Undisputed WWE Champion take on the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther to make history. Another tense exchange led to The Ring General blocking a super Cody Cutter with a Sleeper, as Rhodes immediately rolled into a cradle for the surprising pin, shocking the RAW Superstar as well.
The Ring General and The American Nightmare are being widely praised for how good today's in-ring work was. Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter agreed and was glad none of the rumored run-ins from names like Bill Goldberg and Kevin Owens happened. The 2011 NWA Hall of Fame inductee further praised Gunther, declaring that he'd lost nothing by failing to win his first-ever singles bout against Rhodes.
"Quite a competitive match and a very surprising end. Both gave their best efforts and I am glad no interference from Kevin Owens or Goldberg, as predicted, spoiled this main event. Classy aftermath with Gunther offering his hand to congratulate Cody, but hurling some inaudible words at the Undisputed, and now the initial male, Crown Jewel Champion. Gunther lost nothing by not winning this Crown Jewel title. He is still one of the most dominant talents ever in the modern era of pro wrestling," Bill Apter said.
Gunther graciously shook hands with Rhodes after the match, and then the Imperium leader had a few words for the dual WWE champion.
Triple H then presented the Crown Jewel Championship to The American Nightmare as the Women's Crown Jewel Champion Liv Morgan joined them for a show-closing celebration.
