"He was frightening" – Legend pays tribute to Sid Vicious (Exclusive)

Sid Eudy, better known to wrestling fans as Sid Justice, Sid Vicious, and Sycho Sid, passed away on August 26, at age 63. Legendary reporter Bill Apter recently shared his memories of the six-foot-nine star.

Sid Vicious broke into the wrestling business in the late 1980s. Apter first encountered the former WCW and WWE star when he performed as the masked Lord Humongous character in Mid-South Wrestling.

Apter discussed Sid's career alongside WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and host Mac Davis on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine. He recalled how fans were legitimately afraid of Sid's villainous persona:

"He was one of these big men, with that humungous mask or without it, he was frightening," Apter said. "He was the type when he'd come out, if he was a heel, that the kids wouldn't laugh at like they do to a lot of heels today. They would be terrified of him. He told me this in an interview, he was the first American to ever introduce the Powerbomb into American wrestling after he'd seen that in Japan." [2:40 – 3:11]

In the video above, Teddy Long told an amusing story about the time Sid Vicious was pulled over by a police officer.

Bill Apter on Sid Vicious' passion for wrestling

It has often been said that Sid Vicious occasionally skipped wrestling shows due to his love of softball. However, according to Bill Apter, the two-time WWE Champion was passionate about the wrestling industry.

Apter added that he spoke to Sid about wrestling topics while traveling with him on the road:

"I traveled with him at times and he loved talking about the business. Loved talking about the business. I had heard that it was cancer and COVID might have interfered and started to make his condition even worse. That's what I'd heard. I can't confirm it. But, yeah, one of the great big guys in the business. He could do it all." [3:27 – 3:52]

Sid was among the biggest names in wrestling in the 1990s. During that decade, he headlined WrestleMania against Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker in 1992 and 1997, respectively.
